THE WORD · FAITH · PRAYER

Know the Word. Trust the promises.

A life of faith grows through humble dependence on God: learning what He has said, choosing to obey, and trusting His promises.

A knowledge of the truth

A knowledge of the truth depends not so much upon strength of intellect as upon pureness of purpose, the simplicity of an earnest, dependent faith. To those who in humility of heart seek for divine guidance, angels of God draw near. The Holy Spirit of Christ, the One who died for us (Romans 8:9), is given to open to them the rich treasures of the truth.

When we learn the power of His Word, we need not follow Satan’s suggestions to obtain food or preserve life. Our questions become: What has God commanded? What has He promised? Knowing these, we obey the one and trust the other.

True faith rests on the promises in the Word of God; those who obey that Word can claim its promises. The Spirit of Christ enables us to obey God’s Word.

A prayer of surrender

“Lord, take my heart; for I cannot give it. It is Thy property. Keep it pure, for I cannot keep it for Thee. Save me in spite of myself, my weak, unchristlike self. Mold me, fashion me, raise me into a pure and holy atmosphere, where the rich current of Thy love can flow through my soul.”
“Take me, O Lord, as wholly Thine. I lay all my plans at Thy feet. Use me today in Thy service. Abide with me, and let all my work be wrought in Thee.”
“I come to present myself to God in the name of Him who has died for me. I give my heart—my desires and daily choices—to Jesus, and I desire His blessing and His Spirit.”

The Savior’s life on earth was a life of communion with nature and with God. Through continual communion, He received life from God that He might impart life to the world. “His experience is to be ours.” Desire of Ages, p. 363

“I have done as Thou hast said. I present Thy promise: ‘Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.’” Matthew 7:7 · KJV ↗
“It is those who, with love for God and their fellow men, are striving to help others, that become established, strengthened, settled, in the truth.” ChS 106.4; Testimonies for the Church, vol. 5, p. 393.2
“Lord, help me to do my best. Teach me how to do better work. Give me energy and cheerfulness. Help me to bring into my service the loving ministry of the Saviour.” The Ministry of Healing, p. 474

In trials, pray for patience and joy rather than shrinking back. “Deny self; ye must step fast.” The strongest person, the user’s cited passage says, is one who can restrain passion and forgive enemies. Messages to Young People, p. 412.1

Knocking on the Pearly Gates of Heaven Means to Claim Exceedingly Great and Precious Bible Verse Promises

The promises of God looked like precious pearls, received by asking. We should acquaint ourselves with God by proving His promises. Faith claims God’s promises and bears fruit in obedience.

Will you come to God as a child, receive His promises, and plead them as His own words? Christ said: “If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove.” Matthew 17:20 · KJV ↗

Scripture also speaks of the “exceeding great and precious promises” through which believers may become “partakers of the divine nature.” Read 2 Peter 1:4 · KJV ↗ God’s Word calls us to hold to His commands and promises, and to seek wisdom from Him. Job 22:28 · Job 28:28.

How to start claiming Bible promises

God’s Word contains thousands of promises. Begin with Scripture, ask for the Spirit of Christ, and seek to live what you learn. The passages here are a starting point for prayerful study; read each promise in its context.

“I come to present myself to God in the name of Him who has died for me. Take my heart—I give my desires, daily choices, and will to Jesus—and I desire His blessing and His Spirit.”

Learn how to perform miracles through Christ

“It was a difficult task for the Prince of life to carry out the plan which He had undertaken for the salvation of man, in clothing His divinity with humanity. He had received honor in the heavenly courts, and was familiar with absolute power. It was as difficult for Him to keep the level of humanity as for men to rise above the low level of their depraved natures and be partakers of the divine nature.”

Peter writes that God has given “exceeding great and precious promises” so that we may become partakers of the divine nature (2 Peter 1:4). In this devotional reading, that means learning the character of Christ—His thoughts, feelings, and love—and seeking to follow Him.
